Spaces / Altbau cafe
Altbau cafe
High ceilings, tall windows and daylight most of the day. A room like this wants a lamp with a personality, one that holds its own switched off.

What a cafe asks of its light
- Mood
- Warm at dusk without looking odd at noon. Cups, kettles and urns make sense in a room that serves from them.
- Sightlines
- Altbau ceilings leave a lot of air above the tables. A pendant brings the light down to where people sit.
- Practicalities
- Counters and window ledges are where pieces live. Keep them away from the till and the steam.
Rules of thumb from how we light these pieces. Ask us what we’d do in your room.
The shortlist
Every piece shown at close to the same size, so the details are easy to compare. The real sizes are under each one.

Where to put it
General rules of thumb, not our measurements. Your designer or electrician should confirm heights and wiring for your room.
Over a table
A pendant usually hangs about 70 to 85 cm above the table top. Under a high ceiling that means a long drop.
On the counter
Put counter pieces at the end of the counter, not by the till, so cables stay clear.
Daylight
These set the mood of a room. Pair them with your normal lighting.
Hanging pieces
Hanging pieces are connected by a qualified electrician.
One Object, One Venue
Does your place already have its object?
- The cafe’s first coffee machine.
- A grandmother’s milk jug and sugar bowl.
- The scale that weighed the beans.
Examples to show the idea, not past projects.
We can turn it into the room’s own light, one of one like everything here.
Opening a cafe in an old building?
Tell me about the room. I’ll write back with the pieces that fit, their prices and a time to see them lit at the studio.
