How Messing Around started
Two things I am interested in: finding the potential hidden in long lost old objects, and treasure hunting in flea markets. You can see how these two complete each other.
Hi everyone! Welcome! My name is Keren. I am the owner and founder of Messing Around, a light studio in Berlin. I make lamps with a twist and a unique story.
I usually don’t spend much time in the virtual space, but an occasion like creating a new site is definitely a good reason to reach out and share my story with you.
Two passions
The studio was created very naturally, by combining two things I am interested in. The first is finding the potential that is hidden in long lost old objects that look, at first gaze, like utter garbage, thrown away on some street corner to rot.
My other passion is treasure hunting in flea markets. You can see clearly how these two passions complete each other perfectly.
Since I relocated to Berlin, I’ve been exploring and enjoying not only the city’s flea markets, but expanding my treasure hunts to Germany and Eastern Europe. There are so many more to discover!
A new purpose
The need to find a new purpose for all the jewels I’ve found led to the birth of my studio, where I enjoy conversing with my precious object, until we find a mutual understanding of what will be its new purpose.
It takes sometimes lots of imagination and creativity in order to see the beauty that is buried under dust, rust and years of negligence. But I love the way, and enjoy it as much as I do when I fulfil it and create a new lamp from something that has lost its use.
Upcycling is a concept I practice and highly value. Especially in our day and age.
Come and see the door for yourself
The pieces are at the studio, plugged in. Visits by appointment at Frankfurter Allee 6, Friedrichshain.
